On Doing Nothing: the “Ga-tanga” Experience
My baby’s still in Singapore since that tearful day at the airport [Apr21]. It’s been over a week and the phone’s been dead-silent the whole 7 days except for the occassional calls from the General Headquarters back in the friendship city [Tagbilaran, Bohol]. I even “voluntarily” call them just to shrug off the loneliness that was setting into my heart and into the room.
Not just the room, if I say so myself. The whole area here near the boarding house seems weirdly peaceful and quiet. CDU actually transferred to its new mall-like campus near the CICC (cebu international convention center) so the college chicks and “young stupid boys” (just to emphasize my age and genius) with their child-like personalities have gone there too.
What have I been doing? Simple. It’s doing worthless things or doing nothing at all. I’ve finally realized what my baby had been saying to me whenever I ask her “Wud (what r u doing?)” and she’d reply by saying “ga-tanga“. My first impression on that answer was, “what? is that even possible? I’m sure you’re watching tv or sitting down.” Those are far better answers than “ga-tanga”. But now, I’ve realized IT IS REALLY POSSIBLE. omg.
I’ve done quite a few things the past few days to alleviate this sickness (which people would say is a result of loneliness). Here are some of the things:
1. I rearranged all the things that 4 years of college took to turn my room into a garbage dump. But here’s the sitch: it only took me 2 hours to do that(!). I couldn’t believe how efficient I was in stacking those reams and reams of photocopied materials. I would have thought it would take me at least a day so that I would be able to waste the time away doing something useful. The Verdict: I FAILED.
2. I recently purchased a 1gb Adata Jogr USB Flash Drive after quickly deciding that the super thin 512mb Adata Myflash didn’t work at all on 4 USB ports sharing power in one PC. I tried attaching it to an extension cable and it worked like a charm. Unfortunately, I’d have to bring that same wire everywhere I go so I decided to give to my brother. This took me 2 days back and forth plying the Capitol-Ayala-SM route. hehe The Verdict: MIDDLE GROUND. (I spent 2 days + much moolah)
3. I spend time at the internet more often now compared before. But the internet nowadays has more clutter than useful information. Yes, the news sites are there but it’s still the same concept, either it’s war/crime or corruption in our society. You go to international news agencies and they give you war news from other parts in the world. It makes me think the world never had peace for more than 2 days in its lifetime. The Verdict: I FAILED.
So, what else is there to do?
4. Study and review. Which proves to be boring yet informative. Lonely, yes, but the radio is there with Mo Twister live from Magic 89.9 in the morning via Killer Bee 92.3 Cebu. At least he makes me laugh with his nonsense. The Verdict: Thank you Mo and Mojo Jojo + Maui! *claps heard all around*
5. As much as I want to and hanggang sa kaya ng bulsa, I talk to my baby whether on the free Yahoo Messenger service or VoIP pegged at P5/min at current rates. She’s my life. She’s the reason why I’m having this Ga-tanga sickness coz she’s nowhere nearer now than before. She’s the reason why I spent my P100 Globe load just to call her for 5 mins at P20/min(?!) charges.. huhu Love you b! ^_^’
